Dean Jefferys

Dean Jefferys is 47, has 2 children and has lived in the Byron region in Northern NSW Australia for 13 years

Dean has been on the frontline of Peace and environment activism for 25 years and being arrested over 20 times for following his beliefs.

In 1991 Dean was a human shield in the Gulf peace camp in Iraq during the Gulf War. In 2002 Dean returned to Iraq to make a documentary for SBS Dateline to give the Iraqi people a face.

Dean has had 2 documentaries screened on SBS TV about indigenous and environmental issues in the Amazon showing the tribal peoples struggle against oil companies and the encroaching out side world.

SOME OF DEANS ACTIVITIES INCLUDE -

1984 Dean dropped a wreath of flowers from his ultra light aircraft onto Roxby Downs   Uranium mine in South Australia

1985, Dean dropped a 'paint bomb' from his ultra light aircraft onto the deck of the nuclear warship USS Buchanan as it made its way up Sydney Harbour.

1986 Participated and videoed at the Pine Gap protest. Flew over and videoed the road through the Daintree rainforest.

1987 East Timor Protests

1988 Participated and videoed at the AIDEX Arms Expo in Canberra.

1989 Participated and videoed protests against ships carrying imported rainforest timber

1990 Participated and videoed at the South East Forest wood-chipping and old Growth forests protests in NSW and Victoria.

1991 Videoed the Penan peoples rainforest Blockades in Sarawak, Borneo and joined the Gulf Peace Camp in Iraq with 90 people from 15 countries with the aim to non-violently avert war.

1997 Organised the Nude ain't Rude Rally in Byron Bay

1998 Helped indigenous Amazon people protests against American oil companies

2000 Helped organise a Rally against Genetic Engineering in Byron Bay. Helped organise Anti Drug sniffer dogs Rally, Byron Bay

2000 Dean ran as a candidate for the HEMP Party in the Australia Federal Election

2002 Returned to Baghdad with Iraq Peace Team

2003 January. Dean hung 3 Peace banners from the top of the Sydney Opera House.

2004 Dean ran as a candidate for the Nuclear Disarmament Party in the Australia Federal Election and helped unseat the local Government Minister mainly due to his support for the Government on the Iraq Invasion.
